The One Championship women’s atomweight champ,Angela Lee, has been injured in a car crash while on a visit to her home in Hawaai. She was apparently driving to her parents gym when she fell asleep at the wheel and her car spun out flipping 5 to 6 times. A photo of the car wreck was tweeted by a local journalist.
She will not be defending her title now in her rematch against Mei Yamaguchi on November 24th in Singapore at ONE: IMMORTAL PURSUIT. Lee is 8-0 in her MMA career with six wins by submission. ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong released a statement on his Facebook page.
ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee got into a terrible car accident yesterday with her car flipping over 5-6x according to the police. She was driving to her morning training at the gym when she fell asleep. Miraculously, she survived with only a concussion, some minor burns, and a banged up body. If she was not wearing a seatbelt, it would have most certainly been a different story. I saw photos of the damaged car, and it was a complete wreck. Angela will not be competing on November 24. We are all blessed and relieved that Angela will make a full recovery. It is a reminder for all of us that life is so fragile and that we must treasure our loved ones every day. Please join me in sending love, prayers, and positive energy to Angela and her family.
We wish Angela Lee a speedy recovery.
No news yet if One is looking for a replacement fighter for Yamaguchi.
The co main event on this card was a farewell retirement bout for welterweight champion Ben Askren (17-0) vs. Shinya Aoki (39-7) and it seems like this will most likely be moved up to be the main event.
