The Lightweight division is considered by many as the most competitive in mixed martial arts, but for the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski, moving up to 155 won’t be much of a big challenge for him.

Alexander Volkanovski aiming for the Double Champ status

Volkanovski, who has remained undefeated in the UFC, is set to defend his title for the fourth time in a much-anticipated trilogy fight against Max Holloway at UFC 276 which will head to the T-Mobile Arena on 2nd July.

A third victory over “Blessed” is definitely going to solidify Volkanovski’s place as the best 145-pounder, but that doesn’t mean that the idea of making a jump to 155 is not being considered by the Aussie.

While Volkanovski doesn’t have much competition left at Featherweight following the Holloway trilogy, many MMA fans consider him to have it much tougher at lightweight which has no lack of challenges for him. However, speaking to The MMA Hour, “The Great” stated that not only the move is coming soon, but doesn’t consider the 155-pounders to be that much of a threat to himself.

“I’m moving up soon, I’m going to go out here and do what I plan on doing in f*cking several weeks. Everyone is going to be wanting that, it’s going to put me in a lot better position. Whether I need to wait for someone or whatever it is because I still need this division to sort itself out. I will be looking at that division if I don’t have s*it happening in my division, I’m going to have my eyes open,” said Volkanovski.

Volkanovski, who is a former Roshambo MMA and Wollongong Wars Lightweight champion, has his aim at the 155-pound gold at the UFC, which will make him the next double champion in the promotion.

“I’m looking at them, and I see great opportunities in that fight… I don’t look at this as that big of a challenge… I want to go for that double champ status. Believe me, it isn’t going to be as hard as some people think it’s going to be to do,” he added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
