UFC’s upcoming pay-per-view, UFC 225 got a major reshuffling last day as the promotion decided to promote the Women’s Featherweight fight between Holly Holm and Megan Anderson to the Main card.
As a result, the Heavyweight showdown between Alistair Overeem and Curtis Blaydes was dropped to the prelims as well. As per the initial advertisements, the fight between Holm and Megan Anderson was supposed to serve as the headliner of the UFC 225 prelims. Blaydes vs. Overeem was on the main card as well.
The reactions
The reason behind UFC’s decision is yet to be known and the fighters have already expressed their doubts.
“I’ve got no idea why the change was made and tbh idc it literally changes nothing, still getting paid and still have a job to do. Only perk is now I get to clock out of work closer to 8 as opposed to like 10ish,” Blaydes noted on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Overeem also reacted to the situation and saw the positive side of things.
“For the record I have no problem with the decision because now people in Europe don’t have to stay up late and the sooner the better,” he noted in one of his tweets.
In another tweet, Overeem also asked the fans about their opinion on the reshuffle. Interestingly, Overeem has not fought in the prelims throughout his UFC career which started back in 2011. This will be his first time fighting on a preliminary card.
Meanwhile, Megan Anderson will be making her debut at the event when she fights former Bantamweight champion, Holly Holm. Holm is coming into the pay-per-view on the back of a defeat against Cris Cyborg and is 1-4 in her last five fights.
UFC 225 will be headlined by the Middleweight championship fight between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. Interim Welterweight championship fight between Rafael Dos Anjos and Colby Covington will serve as the co-main event.
