3 UFC fights to look out for in 2021

We are almost six months into 2021 and fight fans have been treated with some of the best UFC fights to date. The year started with a classic banger between former featherweight champion Max Holloway and surging contender Calvin Kattar. The fight was the very first of the year and it is the top contender to win the FOTY award.

Fight fans were then treated to UFC 257, where Dustin Poirier caused a massive upset by knocking out Dustin Poirier in the second round.

However, with six more months left in the year, there’s plenty of more fights and potential fights to look forward to in 2021. Out of five pay-per-view fight cards in 2021 so far, three of the fight cards i.e UFC 257, UFC 259 and UFC 262 has seen underdogs defeating the betting favourites and this is all happening because the UFC is putting up quality fights and more upsets are bound to happen. As per casumo sports betting, UFC 263 featuring Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori has the Kiwi star as a massive betting favourite, but the Italian has been consistently putting on a sharp performance and taking a clue for Adesanya’s last fight, he is bound to use his wrestling more and as evident in the last few pay-per-view fight, we may just see another upset happening.

Here are the top 3 fights that fans are looking forward to in the second half of 2021:

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3

The highly anticipated trilogy fight between former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor and former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier takes place on July 10 at UFC 264 fight card in Las Vegas.

Both fighters are 1-1 against each other heading into the third fight. Conor McGregor and Poirier first fought in 2013 and in that fight, McGregor was able to KO the Louisiana native in the first round. On the other hand, Poirier turned things around in the rematch and knocked out McGregor in the second round at UFC 257 earlier this year and labelled the scorecards. Now the pair will meet in the trilogy on July 10 to decide the ultimate victor of this rivalry.

Jan Blachowicz vs Glover Teixeira

UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz is all set to defend his title against a veteran in Glover Teixeira at UFC 266 on September 5.

Glover Teixeira is getting a crack at the title for the second time in his professional MMA career. He first got a title shot against Jon Jones at UFC 172 in 2014. In that fight, he was defeated by the ‘Bones’ via a unanimous decision. Glover has had a late-career resurgence in the MMA world having brutally defeated the likes of Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith in his last two fights. He is also currently riding on a five-fight winning streak.

Jan Blachowicz, on the other hand, is coming off of an amazing victory over UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 259 earlier this year in March. Prior to that, he knocked out Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 to win the UFC light heavyweight title.

Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones

UFC’s heavyweight division found a new titleholder earlier this year when Francis Ngannou knocked out Stipe Miocic in the second round at UFC 260.

Since then there have been a lot of talks about a potential fight between Ngannou and Jones for the heavyweight championship. Jon Jones vacated his light heavyweight title last year following a win over Reyes at UFC 247 to move up to heavyweight.

While Jon Jones has full intention of fighting in the heavyweight division, the former champion hasn’t come to terms yet with his employer on the financial compensation for the super-fight.

A fight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou will be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history.
