4 Indians fall short at the IMMAF-WMMAA Unified World Championships in Bahrain (with fight video)

The IMMAF | WMMAA World Amateur MMA Championships started from 10th November in  Manama, Bahrain as part of BRAVE International Combat Week. The championship has had a terrific start and with entertaining fights being delivered by the fighters.

Unfortunately, the tournament didn’t get to a good start for the Indian as out of the 11-fighter that India sent, 4 of them lost the fight on the opening night.

Here’s the result of the Indian contingent on Day 1 in the round of 32:

1. Male Welterweight 77.1 kg (170 lbs) Abdou toure (France) d e f Balakrishna Satyaprasad Patange (India) via Unanimous Decision Round 3 (30-26, 29-28, 30-27)

2. Male Lightweight 70.3 kg (155 lbs) Haddi Mounir (France) d e f Athul D Hotker (India) via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

3. Middleweight 83.9 kg (185 lbs) Adis Saljevic (Sweden) def Vaibhav Vaman Shetty (India) via first-round TKO (controversial stoppage)

4. Featherweight 65.8 kg (145 lbs) Ahmed Gazimagomedov (Russia) def. Karan Nitin Chauhan (India) via second-round sub (Americana)

The fight between Vaibhav Shetty and Adis Saljevic was an extremely controversial one as the Indian cut open the swede in the opening round. But the referee stopped the fight 11-seconds before the end of round 1 despite Vaibhav defending himself on the ground. Team India approached the officials after the fight to try and appeal the loss but were informed that it would be unlikely that the result would be overturned.

The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s 2019 Senior and Junior World Championship tournament is taking place at Khalifa Sports City and is being hosted by the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation under the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
