According to Tom Aspinall, Jon Jones is afraid to confront him and to engage in difficult combat.
Since November 2023, Aspinall has served as the interim heavyweight champion; however, he has not yet unified his title against Jones. Aspinall asserts that Jones is afraid to face him and was afraid to face Francis Ngannou, although the bout has not yet taken place.
Aspinall stated on Impaulsive, “Yes, he’s afraid to fight me.” Yes, without a doubt. The problem with Jon is that he is deceiving the public, dude. He is a terrific fighter, and I have no doubt about it. His refusal to fight Ngannou for three years and his refusal to fight me for more than a year, in my opinion, are related. I don’t take anything away from him because of how cleverly he manipulates the people and media. But do I believe that at this point in his career, he is too afraid to take on the difficult challenges?
Tom Aspinall responds that he can see why Jon Jones wouldn’t want to fight him. However, that doesn’t alter his belief that Jones is afraid to oppose him and jeopardize his reputation.
Yes, I can. I appreciate that, but if you were to ask me directly if Jon Jones is afraid to fight me, I would honestly say that he is,” Aspinall continued.
“Big news” is on the way, according to Tom Aspinall
Tom Aspinall believes the fight will finally take place, despite his belief that Jon Jones is afraid to face him.
After meeting with UFC executives, Aspinall is optimistic that a significant event is imminent.
““We had a fantastic meeting,” Aspinall explained during a Monday appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. “Everything went amazing. I understand my position now. I understand what the company’s doing now, and you’ve got to stay tuned because there’s some big news coming…
“After the meeting, I’m feeling very optimistic about things,” Aspinall added. “I’m in a really, really, really good spot with everything and my future moving forward. It’s exciting times. And the break, it’s not a massive break, to be honest. People are saying, ‘Jon Jones is holding up your career,’ and stuff, but it’s only been seven months, it’s not too bad. I don’t wanna say too much, but exciting stuff in the future.”
Tom Aspinall, who is 15-3 as a professional, just defeated Curtis Blaydes via knockout to retain the interim title.
