Israel Adesanya's team mate Fau Vake dies after being assaulted in New Zealand

City Kickboxing fighter and Israel Adesanya’s teammate, Fau Vake has died due to injuries suffered in an alleged assault in New Zealand.

Fau Vake was an amateur MMA fighter and a kickboxer. He was 2-0 as an amateur and showed great promise in his future but unfortunately, his sad demise has crumbled all the dreams of his team who is in huge shock after this news.

According to reports he was attacked around 3:00 am last Sunday in Auckland, New Zealand. Four men are facing charges for the attack on Vake. Two men are charged with common assault and the third man faces two counts of assaulting with intent to injure, and a fourth is charged with wounding with intent and injuring with intent.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya posted on social media about the incident and asked his fans to pray for his friend.

City Kickboxing released the following statement to the NZ Herald after the death of Fau Vake.

“It is with inexplicable sadness almost seven days to the hour after his hospital admission, Fau’s fight to find his way back to us ended,” the statement read. “At this tragic time, the Vake family and City Kickboxing ask for time to grieve and reflect on the loss of Fau – a father, a son and a much loved brother to us all. We will speak when the time is right to ensure Fau’s loss is not forgotten, but for now please respect our privacy.”

There are no firm reports regarding why the attack happened and what was the motive behind attacking a rising fighter. The local police of New Zealand are investigating this and will definitely release some reports soon. The incident has shaken the entire city kickboxing team and all the fighters training there are in grief.
