There is no longer a contract for a veteran 185-pound fighter on the UFC roster.
News of UFC roster layoffs is nothing new to fans. The promotion severs connections with some fighters as the number of new additions increases. Athletes are frequently fired following a run of defeats. In other cases, fighters’ thrilling fighting style or popularity allow them to survive the wave of releases.
A middleweight veteran who just won is no longer under contract with the UFC.
At the moment, Brad Tavares has no UFC deal
MMAFighting.com reports that Brad Tavares’s contract with UFC has expired. While Tavares isn’t on the UFC roster as of now, the report didn’t rule out the possibility of Tavares signing a new deal with the promotion. Tavares had competed under the UFC banner since 2010.
In “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz,” he participated. There may be a chance for Tavares to continue his 26-fight run with the UFC. There is currently no word on whether the parties will reach a new agreement.
Former UFC middleweight champions Chris Weidman, Robert Whittaker, and Israel Adesanya are just a few of the people Tavares has mixed it up with. Back in 2023, he even defeated Weidman by unanimous decision. In April, Tavares defeated Gerald Meerschaert by unanimous decision.
At sixteen, Tavares is tied with Michael Bisping, a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, for the most middleweight victories in the promotion. Tavares will go with a 16-10 record with the UFC if this is, in fact, the conclusion of his tenure there. Tavares has a 21–10 overall record in professional MMA.
