Alaverdi Ramazanov Sends Clear Warning To Capitan, Eyes Bout With Nong-O

ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Alaverdi Ramazanov will defend his belt for the first time against record-setting knockout artist Capitan Petchyindee Academy at ONE: UNBREAKABLE this Friday, 22 January.

The main event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium will be Ramazanov’s toughest test to date. Capitan snuffed out Petchtanong Petchfergus just six seconds into their September 2020 bout, etching his name into the ONE Super Series history books in the process.

If I like my opponent, and if he behaves well, I won’t knock him out. I will show a very good fight with him,” Alaverdi Ramazanov said.

If he misbehaves, I’ll knock him out in five seconds – not six!

It seems the confidence is oozing from every pore of Alaverdi Ramazanov, who’s been away from action since winning the belt in December 2019. Ahead of his return, the Russian says his absence from the Circle has kept him salivating for a big performance.

I think the time [away from] fighting benefited me because I am hungrier now. I will go there and show more,” Alaverdi Ramazanov said.

Since I became the World Champion, I feel in my [rightful] place. I have more motivation to train harder so the belt stays with me.

It is very important for me. It is my belt and I’m not planning to give it away. I will go to the ring and show why it is meant to be with me.”

Ramazanov may be confident, but he’s not overlooking the Thai’s lightning-quick ability to send sparks through his opponents. In fact, the reigning king knows exactly what he must watch out for when he enters the Circe against Capitan.

I think his strongest part is his brain. He can be very unpredictable,” Ramazanov said.

He has very good skills and fighting technique. He can control the fight, and I really like this style of fighting. He can win against the greatest fighters. I think he has it all — IQ, technique, and timing.”

This means the defending World Champion will have to use his advantages to perfection.

My strongest parts are my long arms and legs,” Ramazanov added. “He is shorter than me — and my superiority is my boxing skills. I have very powerful punches.”

Alaverdi Ramazanov may move up in weight class

Ramazanov may not be affected by the outcome of Capitan’s last matchup. But he knows that beating the Thai would send his stock soaring in the bantamweight division, where he hopes to make more World Title defenses before moving on to another quest.

My opponent’s last fight finished very quickly, but I am not impressed,” the Russian said.

As a fighter, I am very interested in this matchup because he is a current champion. He has a big name in Thailand. He has a high rating and I’m very much interested in testing my skills against him.

Next, I’m looking forward to facing fighters with big names like Nong-O [Gaiyanghadao] and Liam Harrison. And possibly after the next fight, I am interested in going up to featherweight to make a big statement.”

Watch Alaverdi Ramazanov defend his belt against Capitan at ONE: UNBREAKABLE this Friday, 22 January, on Hotstar, Star Sports Select 2, or the ONE Super App at 6 p.m. India Standard Time (IST).
