Aleksandar Rakic wants No.1 contender fight against Jiri Prochazka

UFC top light-heavyweight fighter Aleksandar Rakic has called out Jiri Prochazka and proposed a challenge for a no.1 contender fight says he wants to stop the hype train of Jiri.

Jiri Prochazka knocked out Dominick Reyes with a spinning back elbow in the second round into the main event of UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas. By defeating the former two-time title challenger, Jiri just set himself up with the top fighters in his division and has attracted some attention towards him.

With just 2-0 in the UFC, people are talking about Jiri being the next big thing in the division. The UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz also appreciated him for his win and mentioned that he will be interested to fight him someday to which Prochazka replied by saying it will be his pleasure to fight the champion one day.

But not all fighters are happy seeing the new rising contender who has just had two fights in the division and people are considering him as the next title challenger.

Aleksandar Rakic wants to fight Jiri Prochazka

The 29-year-old Rakic is on a two-fight winning streak with the last two victories coming against top contenders Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith. Rakic has an amazing overall record of 14-2 in MMA and is 6-1 in the UFC. As he thinks as the champion Blachowicz is going to defend his belt soon against Teixeira he proposes a No.1 contender fight between him and Jiri. He also says he does believe he will be able to stop the hype train of Prochazka.

“He did a great performance,” Rakic told MMA Junkie. “He knocked out Reyes. He’s now a top contender, and this fight makes sense against Jiri. The result what happened on Saturday is the best thing that could have happened to me because this wakes my attention, my motivation. I’m even now more motivated to go back to the gym, to train harder and harder.”

He continued, “This fight against Jiri makes the most sense now, and Glover (Teixeira) is going to fight Jan (Blachowicz) in September. Who else is gonna fight Jiri instead of me? Who?”

Rakic also said he and his team have noticed some flaws in Jiri’s game and he has a grappling advantage over Jiri.

“He’s very aggressive,” Rakic said. “He’s coming forward. I’ve been watching him with my team. He’s a very good, aggressive, offensive striker. I didn’t see so much grappling and wrestling, I saw just in the last fight. I see some holes in his game especially. He’s unorthodox, and you need to deal with this unorthodox style, and I think his style would match up perfectly because when I’m in the octagon I’m ice cold and with every mistake, he will need to pay.

Aleksandar has also got the perfect time for this fight.

“If the UFC want to do it with me and Jiri in September on the same card as Jan and Glover, that would be great for the division,” Rakic said. “It’s up to the UFC what they want. It’s a lot of hype around Jiri, and I understand this. He did a very good job, but someone needs to stop the hype.”
