Alex Pereira’s UFC 300 contract against Jamahal Hill has turned out to be very interesting- as it includes a clause that will offer the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion a direct entry at UFC 301- which is taking place in Brazil in May.
The highly anticipated UFC 300- the third centennial event of the promotion scheduled for April 13th- will be headlined by Pereira’s first title defense against the former 205-pound champion Jamahal Hill.
“Sweet Dreams” had vacated the belt last year after suffering an Achilees Tendon injury, following which the vacant belt was contested between “Poatan” and Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295, which concluded with a 2nd round TKO victory for Pereira, making the former middleweight titleholder a two division champion.
Alex Pereira needs to defeat Jamahal Hill while taking little damage to earn a spot at UFC 301
While UFC 301 will be coming in the wake of UFC 300, it turns out that Pereira might be fighting there as well, provided he fulfills his part of the contract in the fight against Hill, revealed by former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson.
While making an appearance on WEIGHING IN podcast, Thomson revealed that as per the fight contract, if Pereira defeats Hill without sustaining much damage, it will offer him to fight at UFC 301 as well.
“I also heard that if what’s-his-name gets out of the Jamahal- the 300, he wants to be on that card, Alex Pereira,” said Thomson during the podcast. “Apparently that was part of his contract negotiation. If he gets the win, and he comes out healthy, that he’s allowed to fight on that card. Yeah, that was part of I guess apparently his agreement to fighting on 300.”
While Pereira has the chance to star at UFC 301, fulfilling his part of the contract won’t be that easy of a task. Hill is one of the tougher opponents Pereira will be facing in his MMA career and is known for his vicious knockouts, however his achilles injury might be something that works in favour of Pereira.
