Alexander Volkanovksi is coming off of a spectacular unanimous decision victory over Brazilian legend and former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro at UFC 237.

Before the fight, it was expected that he will get a title shot against UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway next. But UFC had other things on their mind, as Holloway is all set to defend his title against Frankie Edgar at UFC 240 in Alberta, Canada.

To make things worse, Volkanovski was admitted for over a week in a hospital in Santiago, Chile after suffering from a blood clot. Now that he is back home in Australia, he has reacted to the news of getting overlooked for the title.

I was pretty pissed off with the timing of the announcement [of] Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar,” Volkanovski wrote on Twitter. “In saying that, the plan for me was always fighting for the belt later this year and the UFC have made it clear as No. 1 contender, I’m next in line.

I wish Max and Frankie all the best and I look forward to meeting either of you in the Octagon later in the year.”

Alexander Volkanovski is currently riding on a seven-fight winning streak inside the UFC and is expected to fight the winner of Max Holloway vs Frankie Edgar.
