The fighting business is built upon sacrifices. Top brass fighters sacrifice hours perfecting their craft. However, its not just the time but also societal relations that sometimes demand sacrifices from them. Such a case popped up with steadily rising UFC featherweight Alexander Volkanovski during his scheduled fight with Jose Aldo tomorrow at UFC 237.

Volkanovski was supposed to be the best man for his best friend Eli Hutchinson’s wedding that was scheduled for May 11, the same day as UFC 237. However, what happened next showed the level of friendship between Volkanovski and his mate.

“I was trying to put the feelers out for a different date just so I could make the wedding, but they(UFC) wanted that fight that date. Obviously, I had to take it. My mate ended up changing the wedding date so that I could fight (Aldo)”, said Volkanovski, the No. 4 featherweight contender in the UFC.

“He took a risk and asked his fiancée”, said Volkanovski jokingly. “I don’t even know how he would have asked that question. This just goes on to say that what kind of people they are. So when I say that he is my best mate then surely it would have killed me not to be at his wedding.” He further added that the wedding has now been rescheduled to a date at the end of this month.

The undefeated Australian has had a stellar professional career so far in mixed martial arts. His last performance against Chad Mendes was enough to show everyone that he is now capable of going toe-to-toe with the best in the business. A win against Aldo may very well open the gates for him for an interim title fight, something that he has always wanted.
