Former UFC light-heavyweight title contender Alexander Gustafsson will return to his division and fight fellow contender Paul Craig at the UFC event which will take place on September 4.

UFC light-heavyweight rising star Paul Craig has got a huge task in front of him as he will be welcoming former Light-heavyweight title challenger and one of the best light-heavyweights in the world Alexander Gustafsson. Front Kick was the first to report this matchup. The fight is supposed to take place in September. The UFC’s Sept. 4 event does not yet have a publicly announced venue or location, but published reports have linked the show to London. No official announcement regarding the card or this fight has been made by the UFC but the news is valid.

Alexander was once widely regarded as one of the best light-heavyweights to ever compete in the octagon. In his first run in the division, he went 7-1 before fighting for the championship against the very best Jon Jones. Till that moment Jones was already regarded as the best and was looking like the future of fighting and the one who can never be defeated. Alexander was the first one to test Jones-like never before. The fight went the distance and Jones won the match in a very close and controversial decision.

He then challenged for the belt few more times but lost every single chance he had. He then faced Anthony Smith in June 2019 in the main event at UFC Fight Night 153. He lost the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the fourth round. In his post-fight interview, Gustafsson announced his retirement and said “The show is over, guys”.

In June 2020, Gustafsson announced his return to the UFC but was going to compete in the heavyweight division. Gustafsson faced former UFC heavyweight champion Fabrício Werdum at UFC on ESPN 14. He lost the fight via submission in round one and his return to the octagon was spoiled. Now he is ready to fight at his original division against a rising contender.

Paul Craig has recently risen to the occasion and has put himself on notice in the light-heavyweight division. He joined the UFC as an undefeated prospect but had to face adversity in the UFC and face multiple losses. He went 3-4 in the early part of his UFC career but at moment he is riding a 3 fight winning streak. He is coming of a spectacular TKO finish of Jamahal Hill at UFC 263 where he dislocated Hill’s arm in one of the nastiest finishes in the UFC ever.

Both the fighters will be looking to get the win as will set the tone for their career in the division which is lacking in new challengers.
