Alexander Volkanovski, the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion has often been in dialogues hinting a future move up to Lightweight, and has now revealed his desire of taking on the former 155-pound champion Charles Oliveira, only after he settles the score with longtime rival Max Holloway.

Volkanovski is set to take on Holloway in their much awaited trilogy fight at UFC 276, set to take place on 2nd July at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Having defeated “Blessed” in both of their previous encounters, Volkanovski is once again the favourite to win the trilogy.

In the meantime, the Aussie MMA superstar has often talked about a potential move up to lightweight and last month, said that the move will not be a big challenge for him. And now, the 33-year-old has made it clear that he will be making a run at the Lightweight title, currently vacant and was recently under the possession of “Do Bronx” Oliveira and wants to make the jump right after the Holloway trilogy.

“Yeah, that’s why I’ve talked about this third fight with Max being a big one. After this one, I go do my thing. It’s gonna give me time to go at least have a chance to go for that double-champ status. That’s what I want. I’m gonna do what I plan on doing and that’s what I’m gonna call for,” Volkanovski said at a UFC news conference on Tuesday.

“When I look at Oliveira, (he’s a) dangerous fighter. Dangerous fighter, a lot of people love watching him fight, exciting fights. But obviously, he showed that he can be beat. He showed that in his last few. Even if they were exciting, he was almost beat in every one of those times. The thing is with me, I ain’t gonna give him them opportunities. If I land big on someone, they ain’t gonna get the opportunity to land big on me,” he added. [H/T MMA Junkie]
