UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Vokanovski after recovering from COVID-19 still believes that it may have affected his cardio.

UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkonvski is preparing to defend his featherweight title against top contender Brian Ortega in September. The fight is not scheduled at this moment but is speculated to take place by that time. Before that he and Ortega have got a separate assignment from the UFC, as they are the new coaches for TUF season 29 which airs on June 1.

Both of them were scheduled to fight at UFC 260 but the bout got scrapped as Alex tested positive for COVID-19. Now the UFC has set them up for The Ultimate Fighter season 29 and they will be fighting each other after the season ends.

Alexander Volkanovski still struggles from COVID aftereffects

Volkanovski after being diagnosed with COVID pneumonia, which damaged his lung tissue is still not sure that he is recovered from it fully. It’s still a big question when he will be ready to fight in the octagon again. In his recent stories on social media platforms, he opened up about how he is trying to fight the post effects of the COVID. He said that he is doing all kinds of exercises and trying to recover faster but he said he has to struggle a lot and maybe it’s all part of the post effects.

“Just did a strength session and was on the Airdyne bike, the assault bike. Tell you what, that got uncomfortable. I don’t know if it’s this bloody cold air in Australia cuz it’s freezing here, we came from Vegas where it’s boiling hot. We tried to do this outside, the assault bike … it absolutely rocked me. I don’t know if it’s cuz of the COVID or it’s just the cold weather, but damn it trashed me,” Volkanovski said (h/t MMAMania.com).

Fans are excited and eagerly waiting for their featherweight champion to come back and defend his throne against some intriguing challengers but the condition for Alex looks a little concerning and it might take a much longer time to recover. His next fight is definitely not scheduled yet but is most probably going to take place in September. This gives the champion nearly four months to prepare from now. The entire MMA community hopes the champ recovers till then and puts on an amazing show for the fans.
