Reigning UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski is planning to go for a quick batter of Max Holloway in their upcoming trilogy fight at UFC 276 taking place on 2nd July at the T-Mobile Arena.
Alexander Volkanovski says Holloway’s chin “can’t hold up forever”
The past two encounters between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, at UFC 245 and UFC 251, both had gone the distance, with “The Great” winning on both occasions via decision. However, this time, “Blessed” recently revealed that he plans to end it with a stoppage inside three rounds.
“I’ve had 10 rounds with this guy. We’ll be lucky if we get past three in this one. It’s going to be an amazing one… It’s easier said than done, in any fight at any level. Everybody can say you got to get out there and get a finish,” Holloway told ESPN earlier this week. [H/T BJPenn.com]
Volkanovski has responded by saying he will be the one picking up a third win over his longtime adversary. Holloway, the former 145-pound champion and the current No. 1 fighter in the division, is often credited with having one of the best chins in mixed martial arts, something which Volkanovski wants to test himself this weekend.
“That would be incredible. It’s a legendary chin that he has,” said Volkanovski at the UFC 276 media day, “I’ve always said, ‘you don’t want to be known for your granite chin,’ but at the same time, it is legendary at the moment. And if I could take that chin and put him out, that would really be sending a statement because no one has done that. But again, he obviously takes damage, and I’ve touched on the fact that it can’t hold up forever, so let’s see if it holds up this time.”
“I want to end it and end it early, and I think I definitely can. And again, I feel like that chin has to go soon. That’s no disrespect to him, but it’s got to go soon. I know I’m landing on it and landed on it big many times. We’ll see what happens. But if it ends inside the three, that’s me getting the finish,” Volkanovski added. [H/T BJPenn.com]
