Infamous manager Ali Abdelaziz believes that the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor doesn’t want to fight top lightweight contender Justin Gaethje.

The former champion from Ireland will be returning to the Octagon after a fifteen month-long hiatus on January 18 against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor recently gave an interview to the MacLife, where he said that he was going to fight three times this year and one of that fight is going to be against Justin Gaethje.

He’s [Justin Gaethje] on the list. He is on the list. Maybe I will face him next. Maybe I’ll face him next, you know? He has it coming to him. I mean laugh at how Justin is behaving. He’s a funny guy. He’s been taking it very to heart, you know? And I know the feeling when you do that. So maybe I’ll get through Donald and I’ll have a quick turnaround against Justin. So maybe that’s what will happen. But Justin is on the list, no doubt,” McGregor said.

However, Ali Abdelaziz who manages Justin Gaethje believes that the Irishmen isn’t interested in that fight and that a fight with his client will end badly for the former champ.

Listen, Conor does not want to have to do anything with Gaethje,” Abdelaziz told TMZ Sports. “We understand, Gaethje takes a lot of people into deep water. We understand Conor is a quitter. He quits when he’s in deep water. Why the hell does he need to fight. The UFC made the right choice not to [have him] fight Gaethje because he would have beat his a**. Simple.”

Justin Gaethje is currently on a three-fight winning streak and all his victories have come via first-round knockouts. He is also the top contender to fight for the lightweight title.

Logically, he is [next],” Abdelaziz said of Gaethje. “He’s ranked number three. Number two Dustin Poirier fought for the title. That’s the only fight that makes sense for him, for his career, to fight the champion.”
