Ali Abdelaziz gives update on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fighting future

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz has given the latest update on his client’s fighting future.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is scheduled to fight interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, which is scheduled to take place on October 24 with the location being TBD.

The Dagestani star has recently lost his father to Coronavirus and has stated that he has two more fights left in him. Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently 28-0 and his manager Ali has stated that the Russian will fight till he is at least 30-0.

Khabib is in his prime,” Abdelaziz told BJPENN.com in an interview. “He’s training every day. He’s in great shape already. At the end of the day, it’s up to Khabib [if he continues to fight]. I know he’ll probably fight to at least 30-0, but of course, he has to fight Justin first. This is the most important fight for Khabib. It’s the most important for Justin. You can’t look past October 24, out of respect for Justin, out of respect for Khabib. This is a great fight, a very competitive fight, and both guys are going to deliver.

These guys, all their lives they’ve dreamed of becoming a world champion,” Abdelaziz added. “They’ve both become champions. They’re both amazing athletes, and they want to know who’s the best. Justin is the interim champion, Khabib is the world champion, and they’re going to fight. October 24, they’re going to fight, and we’re going to find out who’s the best.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to further his father’s legacy

Khabib Nurmagomedov lost his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov earlier this month to Coronavirus. His father was a Dagestani legend and had worked all his life to grow Martial Arts in the region.

His father was working on numerous infrastructure project in the region that would help local fighters train in world-class facilities. Khabib Nurmagomedov has now taken this upon himself to further his father’s legacy.

“I would like to thank you for your respectful and trusting attitude towards my father. He had a lot of plans, I consider it my duty to see them through to the end,” said Nurmagomedov in a press conference.

“We have an instruction from the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin) and a debt to the memory of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, whom we all respected and appreciated immensely, he was my adviser, helped and supported me a lot,” Nuramgomedov said.
