As Khabib Nurmagomedov is serving his suspension for the UFC 229 post-fight brawl, he has made it clear that he will be out of action August. He was also fined a staggering ₹3.6 crore ($500,000) by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Initially, he had said that he won’t fight until October, but a recent change of events that saw Dustin Poirier beat Max Holloway at UFC 236 to become UFC interim lightweight champion has had Khabib wanting to fight him in September.

It is expected that Khabib will fight Poirier on September 7 at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. But according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz who told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that, Khabib could be fighting former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre by the end of 2019.

“I asked Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz how close the Poirier fight in Abu Dhabi is after NSAC shortened his teammates’ suspensions today. “We are close. Good news coming very soon … And if all goes to plan, I think Khabib will fight Georges St-Pierre at the end of the year.” Okamoto tweeted.

Although it’s unclear in which weight class they both will fight considering GSP last fought in the middleweight division against Michael Bisping back in 2017 and Khabib competes in the lightweight division.
