UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem wants a rematch with Jairzinho Rozenstruick.

Overeem is fresh off an impressive fifth-round TKO win against a young upcoming contender Augusto Sakai last weekend. He wants to make a second and possibly a last run for the title.

However, he wants that next step to be against a familiar face. The man who handed him his previous defeat, Jairzinho Rozenstruick. Rozenstruick is fresh off a win against former champ Junior Dos Santos at UFC 252 last month. Speaking with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Overeem claimed he has “score to settle’. (via BJPENN.com):

“Yes, definitely,” Overeem said when asked if Rozenstruik is his No. 1 target. “I mean I still have a score to settle, right? He stole something from me. He snuck away with the victory. I mean I schooled the man. He knows it, everybody knows it, the whole world knows it. But somehow he still has that W. So we definitely have some score to settle.”

Overeem: The Demolition Man!

Overeem has experienced a career resurgence after his loss against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 225 back in June 2018. He actually shifted his camp to train with Blaydes under elevation.

The results speak for themselves as he has won four of his five fights ever since. He has not only won but finished all his four wins via TKO. Also, three of those four wins have come against hungry upcoming contenders namely Sergei Pavlovich, Walt Harris, and Augusto Sakai.

The only blemish has been against Jairzinho Rozenstruick. The duo fought in December 2019 when Rozenstruick stepped on short notice replacing Harris. Overeem implemented his newly adapted fighting style by picking Rozenstruick apart. He had already won four rounds and was cruising towards a decision win by winning the fifth round as well.

However, Rozenstruick landed a huge right hand with just four seconds remaining in the fight to cause the upset. Overeem, however, does not allow the loss to reflect on himself.

“Actually I am (on a five-fight win streak). That’s the way it feels to me,” he said. “It is not on paper so we gotta still do (the rematch).
