In the lead-up to UFC 306, tensions between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley’s camps reached a boiling point, culminating in a heated confrontation outside the arena. Sterling, accompanied by his close friend and training partner Merab Dvalishvili, found themselves in a fiery exchange with O’Malley’s entourage, which Sterling later described as “minions”.
The incident occurred during the Noche UFC 306 fight week, following the Friday evening face-off. Sterling and Dvalishvili were interacting with fans when they were approached by a group of O’Malley’s supporters. According to Sterling, these individuals were not just random fans but close friends of O’Malley, including his podcast producer.
Sterling recounted the events in an interview, explaining that the confrontation began when O’Malley’s friends started mocking his knockout loss to O’Malley at UFC 292. This provocation led to a tense situation where Sterling and Dvalishvili felt their personal space was being invaded. Sterling emphasized that the behavior of O’Malley’s friends was highly disrespectful and unprofessional.
Aljamain Sterling Opens up on The Incident
“When Merab went on the bus after the face-off, we saw a whole bunch of people waving him down, so he gets off the bus to go over,” Aljamain Sterling explained. “Now, his minions Sch*tty and the other skinny twig were on the other side. I see these guys screaming and yelling, coming all the way back over to be a**holes. I was like, alright guys, the presser’s done, and now you’re in our personal space”.

Aljamain Sterling expressed his frustration with the increasing trend of fans and entourages crossing boundaries and behaving inappropriately. He stressed that such actions are unacceptable, especially when fighters are trying to maintain professionalism and focus on their work. “People have gotten way too comfortable with just being complete aholes and thinking that there’s nothing wrong with them being aholes,” Sterling said. “We’re not in the arena where you can chirp and pay up money, now we’re in our personal space, we’re working and being professional with what we’re trying to do, and you’re literally walking over and being a complete prick. There’s nothing cool about that whatsoever”.
