Last week, Petr Yan created history by becoming the first Siberian born fighter to become the UFC champion.
Petr Yan knocked out former UFC bantamweight champion Jose Aldo in the fifth round of UFC 251 to become the new champion. It was a hard-fought bout for both fighters.
Following Yan’s TKO victory, former bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo took to twitter and took a dig at the Russian.
Congrats precious @PetrYanUFC 💋 but you absolutely suck! You’d be lucky to make it past two rounds with triple c! You ugly potato 🥔 #rentachamp

It didn’t take long for Yan to reply and fired back stating that Cejudo took the easy route in his last fight by fighting Dominick Cruz.
You had opportunity to fight me cringe, but you choose easier option and runaway after. Now you are barking from the safe distance clown. Come back and I will retire you again. https://t.co/kG7htv2FRi

Top bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling wasn’t having any of it and told Yan that he was next in line for a title shot.
Not so fast Petr Butter! You know there’s no way I can let you just run away from me now. Henry the Weasel can wait. 🚫🧢

Petr Yan: Aljamain Sterling deserves a title shot
Following his victory at UFC 251, the newly crowned bantamweight champion told during the post-fight press conference that Aljamain Sterling deserves a title shot.
Aljamain Sterling is coming off of a first-round submission victory over Cory Sandhagen at UFC 250 last month. The ‘Funk Master’ is riding on a five-fight winning streak having beaten the likes of Pedro Munhoz, Cody Stamann, Jimmie Rivera, Brett Johns etc.
“I want to take a rest now, recover, go back to my homeland to see my family, and then it’s the work of my management team,” Petr Yan said. “In my first 18 months, I had six fights. I’ve never said no to an offer, so I’ll probably find out soon. … I think October will be a perfect time.”
“I think Aljamain Sterling deserves to fight for the title,” Petr Yan said. “He’s on a good streak. He beat a lot of good guys.” (H/T – MMA Junkie)
