Aljamain Sterling says he was not feeling well on fight night against Petr Yan at UFC 259

UFC Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has stated that he wasn’t at his very best when he fought Petr Yan at UFC 259 and said that he would not repeat the same mistakes again.

Aljamain Sterling fought Petr Yan for the bantamweight title at UFC 259. Both the fighters had a lot to say to each other before the fight and when the fight started it was an amazing fight as long as it lasted.

Petr Yan was ahead of Sterling the entire fight. He was out striking Aljo and also got a few takedowns to move ahead on the scorecard. Yan had a brilliant game plan coming into the fight as he was successful in implementing it on Aljo. The difference in the matchup was seen and many people thought that there was no way Sterling could have won the fight as Yan was better than him in all aspects of the game.

In a fight he was winning at UFC 259, Yan was disqualified for intentionally striking Sterling with a knee to the head while he was down on one knee. Though many fans thought Sterling could have continued the fight instead he opted to win it the easy way and stayed on the ground.

Aljamain Sterling has now opened up on his performance at UFC 259.

“Felt like shit before the fight. I said this multiple times. Yan blew it. That won’t happen again. Last time I felt like that I did a fasten sparring on a Saturday at 1pm 3 weeks before the fight. Never again.”

Aljamain Sterling on his return

UFC president Dana White has said he’d like to book a rematch between Sterling and Yan, who lost his title to “The Funkmaster” by disqualification as soon as possible but due to a neck surgery that Sterling has to go through the timeline of the rematch is unclear.

Aljamain Sterling told ESPN that doctors diagnosed him with a herniated disc and has to go through surgery.

“They told me I will heal in three months and can start doing cardio to get myself ready,” Sterling said. “They wouldn’t want to see me take a fight until they see everything has fused in my neck correctly. Five months would be ideal if I heal up really quick.”

“For the dummies saying he’s out for 9 months and the losers who says he’s faking shit. See you in October Peanut Butter Pan,” Sterling tweeted. “Sincerely your champ, suck it and life goes on.”

Whenever the rematch might take place it will be an interesting fight between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan considering the bad blood between them and also the way their last fight ended.
