The announcement was made by President Chatri Sityodtong. Needless to say there would be no crowd in the arena. (via Twitter):

“BREAKING NEWS: I have decided to turn all events for ONE Championship into closed-door, audience-free events effective immediately. Bar none, the safety of our fans, athletes, staff, partners, and the public is the highest priority for ONE Championship.”

Sityodtong’s  move is definitely a first and extremely selfless in the history of the sport. The move further paves the way not only for other MMA organizations but other sport organizations in general to conduct audience-free events.

The pandemic has caused up to a whooping 5000 deaths around the world with around 90% of them in China.
