ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues will face Sweden’s Johanna Persson at ONE Fight Night 33 on 12 July.
This marks her fourth title defence since capturing the crown from Stamp Fairtex in 2020.
The Brazilian was originally scheduled to fight Israeli striker Shir Cohen at ONE Fight Night 32 on 8 June, but Cohen’s injury forced the late opponent change.
The switch has given Rodrigues extra weeks to prepare, and she’s been studying tape of the WBC Muay Thai World Champion extensively.
What she’s found has given her confidence heading into the bout.
“I believe her clinch game is a strong point, and I noticed she also throws elbows and likes to apply pressure during the fight. I saw in some videos that her guard is quite open. I’ll definitely use my boxing and kicks to capitalise on that,” Rodrigues said.
The 27-year-old champion from Fortaleza has built her reputation on devastating finishing ability.
Rather than being thrown off by the opponent change, Rodrigues believes the extended preparation has worked in her favour.
“It didn’t affect me at all,” she said. “In fact, I’m going in even more prepared. Two back-to-back training camps – my body is firing on all cylinders. My mindset and focus are always the same.”
The mom-champ has been using visualisation techniques throughout her preparation, picturing herself adding another knockout to her resume. Her most recent outing saw her stop Marie McManamon with a fourth-round TKO in March.
“I really like to visualise my arm being raised. I work hard in every training camp, and this is the first time I’ve done two back-to-back camps with no rest,” Rodrigues said. “I’m going in to get another knockout.”
