MMA and the sport’s top promotion the UFC have evolved over the years. While they were once considered to simply be violent cage fighting, MMA is now a reputable sport. The sport has evolved so much that not only women but also in recent years it has started to accept to a certain extent transgender fighters. However, this has also given rise to plenty of controversies regarding transgender fighters competing in women’s divisions and how it is unfair to biological female fighters. Russian media website RT recently did an op-ed piece on the same issue. However, they sound themselves in plenty of hot water as they accidentally used the UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes’ picture as a transgender fighter. RT did apologise for this mistake and Nunes has now given her reaction on this entire matter.
Nunes to her credit was not offended and let this matter slide and took it as a joke. She jokingly tweeted that if she was a biological man, then she would not be having so much trouble in getting her girlfriend and fellow UFC women’s strawweight Nina Ansaroff a baby. Here’s what she had to say:
What the Fuck? If I was born with a penis I wouldn’t be going through all this trouble to get
@NinaAnsaroff a baby.
