Amanda Ribas vs. Angela Hill targeted for UFC May 8 event

A women’s strawweight bout between rising stars Amanda Ribas and Angela Hill is being targeted for the UFC event which will be taking place on May 8.

Amanda Ribas (10-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) vs. Angela Hill (13-9 MMA, 8-9 UFC) is planned for UFC on ESPN 24, which takes place May 8 with the main card on ESPN. The location and venue have not been announced for the event.

There has been no official announcement of this fight and MMA Fighting.com was the first to report it. This fight is important in the strawweight division as it will make the path of that respective fighter more clear in title contention.

Ribas won her first four fights in the UFC against Emily Whitmire, Mackenzie Dern, Randa Markos, and Paige Vanzant, the latter of which was a trip up to flyweight. In January, Ribas moved back down to strawweight but suffered a second-round TKO loss to Marina Rodriguez on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi – her first setback in more than five years.

Hill got back in the win column just a few weeks ago with a unanimous decision over Ashely Yoder. Before that, she had a three-fight winning streak stifled with back-to-back split decision losses to Claudia Gadelha and Michelle Waterson. The Waterson bout was a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” winner, which was Hill’s first post-fight bonus since her return to the UFC from Invicta FC in 2017.

The UFC Fight Night show on May 8 will be headlined by Cory Sandhagen vs. T.J. Dillashaw in their much-anticipated battle between the former champ and the new face of the division, the striking sensation Cory.

Dillashaw fights for the first time since relinquishing the title after testing positive for erythropoietin (EPO) and receiving a two-year suspension from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. The positive test stemmed from a failed bid for the flyweight title then held by Henry Cejudo in January 2019.

Before that setback, Dillashaw was on a four-fight winning streak that followed the loss of his bantamweight title to Dominick Cruz in 2016. He recaptured the belt one year later with a knockout of former training partner Cody Garbrandt, and an immediate rematch led to the same result.

Sandhagen is one month removed from a highlight-reel knockout of ex-lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, which marked his second straight win after a loss to Sterling gave him the first setback of his professional career. Before that, he knocked out one-time title challenger Marlon Moraes with another highlight-reel shot.

The UFC on ESPN 24 lineup now includes:
