Amir Khan on Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor MMA tease being a ruse

Multiple-time boxing world champion Amir Khan has weighed in on the ongoing Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor MMA fight rumors.

Apparently, Khan believes that the entire tease is nothing more than a ruse, and Mayweather has no intentions of competing in an MMA bout inside the UFC’s famed Octagon.

It was in August of last year that UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor made his professional boxing debut against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.—a fight that was promoted as ‘The Money Fight’, and rightfully so, owing to the huge revenues raked in by the fight at the box office.

While McGregor had success early on, Mayweather used his veteran savvy to turn the tables midway, and pounded on a tired McGregor in the latter rounds—securing a TKO win in Round 10.

Amir Khan skeptical about Floyd Mayweather MMA tease

Intriguingly, Floyd Mayweather is now teasing a rematch with Conor McGregor, only with it taking place in the UFC under MMA rules.

Amir Khan spoke to Sky Sports (*video courtesy—RyanThomasMMA*), and chimed in with his two cents of Mayweather teasing an MMA bout—

“I don’t think they [Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao] will ever step in the cage. MMA is a very difficult sport, you need to have a lot of strength and takedowns and I just don’t think a boxer is just gonna have all the tools to fight someone in an MMA cage, it’s gonna be really difficult.

I’ve been seeing Mayweather talking about and taking a lot of videos and pictures inside the MMA cage, but I just can’t see that ever happening. I can’t see him ever stepping in with someone in the MMA cage.”

Amir Khan is presently looking to fight longtime foe Kell Brook—with the bout likely taking place in the two fighters’ native—the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather continues to tease an MMA fight with Conor McGregor that could take place in 2018.
