Indian boxer and current WBC Asia champion Neeraj Goyat (11-3-2) is all set to take on former two-time world champion from the United Kingdom, Amir Khan (33-5-0) on July 12, 2019, at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
The specially commissioned World Boxing Council Pearl Welterweight Championship will be on the line for this mega fight that involves Amir Khan who traces his origin back to Pakistan and Indian boxing sensation Neeraj Goyat. Now off the cricket field, the sporting rivalry is now on the boxing ring as well.
The fight will take place during Saudi Seasons that will run from 8 June-19 July that aims to transform the Kingdom into one of the most important tourist destinations in the world according to Boxingscene.
However, even though Khan is fighting Goyat, it didn’t stop him from taking shots at Olympic Bronze medalist and former WBO Asia Pacific and Oriental champion Vijender Singh. He said that Indian boxing sensation who Vijender Singh who is undefeated inside the ring is scared to fight him.
“We tried to get Vijender to fight a long time ago. I just feel that he is scared of fighting me. That’s why I respect Goyat for stepping up. I cannot take this fight lightly. I have a lot to lose. I am a two-time champion. He is an upcoming hungry fighter who wants to make a name.
“We want to bring peace between Indian and Pakistan with this fight. Even though we are going to try and knock each other down but in the long run, I think it will be great for both the nations,” Khan said.
Amir Khan is coming off of a TKO loss against Terence Crawford in New York last month. On the other hand, Neeraj Goyat is coming off of a unanimous decision win against Carlos Lopez Mormolejo of Mexico.
