Former UFC middleweight champion and one of the greatest fighters ever, Anderson Silva has called out former two-division champion Conor McGregor.

The Brazilian superstar has expressed interest in dropping down to a lower catchweight to fight the Irishmen.

Silva took to Instagram and said that he will fight McGregor at 176.37lbs. McGregor has previously competed at three weight classes. He held UFC titles at 145lbs and 155lbs, on the other hand, he has a 2-1 record in the 170lbs division.

His last fight took place at the welterweight limit against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. In this fight, Cerrone was knocked out in just 40-seconds of the first round.

SUPER FIGHT 176.37LBS. I have an immense admiration for the great athlete Conor and I believe that a super fight would be something historic for the sport, neither of us need to prove anything to anyone; I believe UFC and sport fans would like to see this great martial (arts) show, testing my martial skills with him would be fantastic!!,” he wrote on Instagram.

It has been over a year since Anderson Silva last stepped inside the Octagon. The 45-year old former UFC undisputed middleweight champion last fought against Jared Cannonier at UFC 237 on May 11, 2019.

Anderson Silva is now a 1-6 (1 NC) in his last eight fights with his sole win coming against Derek Brunson at UFC 208. Prior to his loss to Jared Cannonier, he was convincingly beaten but reigning UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 234 in February of 2019.

Silva also revealed a few months back that he only has two-fights left under his current contract.

Not the first time Anderson Silva has called out Conor McGregor

This is not the first time that Silva has called out Conor McGregor. Back in 2019, prior to his fight against Israel Adesanya, the Spider said that it would be an honor to fight the Irishmen.

I believe 180 (pounds) is good for me and McGregor,” Anderson Silva. “I’m just waiting because I don’t control this. This is a question for Dana, but I believe this an amazing fight for the fans.

I think it’s good for McGregor, and let’s go do it because that’s amazing. That’s for the fans. It’s close to happening you know, but McGregor, come on, man. Let’s go do this. Don’t run, man, don’t run. You scared? I don’t believe that you’re scared, let’s go.

Silva hasn’t won a fight against a top opponent in nearly eight years. His last win against a legitimate opponent came against Chael Sonnen at UFC 148, where he knocked out the American Gangster in the second round. After this, he defeated Stephan Bonnar and since has been losing to all the top fighters.
