Anderson Silva is seemingly aiming to settle the bad blood against Chael Sonnen, as the mixed martial arts legend recently offered his former rival an invitation to a barbeque.
People hate you in Brazil, I don’t: Anderson Silva invites Chael Sonnen to BBQ
During his long reign as the UFC Middleweight champion, Silva had formed fierce strife with Sonnen and the two were seen against one another in the Octagon twice and it is still touted as one of the greatest rivalries in mixed martial arts.
Silva and Sonnen locked horns for the first time at UFC 117 in 2010 August and ended with Silva defeating Sonnen via triangle armbar submission in the fifth round. The rematch, which took place two years later in UFC 148, ended with ‘The Spider’ marking a 2nd round TKO victory over Sonnen.

A decade has passed since their two fight grudge saga but as it seems, the two MMA legends are now trying to bury the hatchet, as the recent interaction between them at the press conference for Silva’s upcoming boxing match against Jake Paul suggested.
Silva and Paul are set to square off in a boxing match in Arizona next month and will mark Silva’s fifth pro boxing fight and his third since leaving the UFC in 2020. During the press conference for the fight, Sonnen joked that he would be backing Silva if necessary, to which the Brazilian invited him to a barbeque- a gesture which Silva had already made to Sonnen a decade back after their rematch.
“Let me tell you something Chael,” said Silva, “you never came to my house. You never came to the barbeque. Why?”
“I didn’t think it was [a] sincere offer,” Sonnen responded, “If I knew I was really invited, I didn’t know if your wife really forgave me, it was a whole thing. That’s the real answer why I didn’t come.”
“Of course, you need to come,” Silva further asserted, “Please, here. Not in Brazil, a lot of people will try to kill you, trust me. People hate you in Brazil, I [don’t]! I love you man.”
