Brazilian Mixed Martial Arts legend Anderson Silva is all set to fight Jared Cannonier at the Jeunesse Arena at UFC 237 which will take place on May 11 in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

At 44 year old and fighting Jared Cannonier isn’t going to be easy as he is coming off of a TKO victory against David Branch at UFC 230. On the other hand, Anderson Silva lost his last fight to current UFC interim middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 234. Silva is winless in more than two years and his last victory came against Derek Brunson at UFC 208.

Even though Silva’s prime years are behind him the UFC legend is working on extending his current UFC contract. According to Jorge Guimaraes, who is Silva’s manager told ESPN that the UFC is working to extending the contract past the three-fights which are currently left.

He’s still got plenty of firewood to burn. He has a very high IQ and knows how to train well. Age is just a number. He never did [recreational] drugs and never drank. He’s perfectly healthy. I think he’s in his best shape ever.” Jorge said.

Although Anderson Silva himself didn’t say much about his fighting future in the fight week leading up to UFC 237, his manager insists that the former middleweight champion isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Oh, the deal will be absolutely renewed,” Guimaraes said. “We’ve already talked about that, and [UFC president Dana White is] interested in it. Just take a look what the boom he caused in Brazil because of that. The UFC is interested. Good things are coming.” (H/T – ESPN.com)
