WBO, WBA, IBF heavyweight champion of the world, Anthony Joshua and WBC heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury have verbally agreed to fight each other.

According to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, the pair have agreed to fight in 2021. It’s a two-fight deal and both fighters are “in agreement regarding the financial terms of the fight”.

It’s the biggest fight to ever take place in British boxing history and arguably one of the most intriguing and exciting heavyweight fights of this century. Tyson Fury is coming off of a spectacular knockout win over Deontay Wilder in February earlier this year in Las Vegas.

As per the contractual agreement, both fighters will meet in a trilogy later this year. On the other hand, Anthony Joshua is coming off of a decision win over Andy Ruiz Jr last December. The Olympic gold medalist and two-time heavyweight champion of the world lost his title to Ruiz a year ago in a shocking upset. He is also scheduled to fight Kubrat Pulev later this year.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are in agreement with the financial terms of the fight

Matchroom Boxing head, Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports that both fighters have verbally agreed to fight each other next year. He also stated that only the financial aspects of the fights have to be negotiated.

It’s fair to say [Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury] are in agreement regarding the financial terms of the fight,” Hearn said. “We’ve been talking to [Fury’s management team] MTK, giving them the assurances from Joshua’s side that all the details on the structure of the deal is approved from our side. And it is from Fury’s side, as well.

We’re in a good place. It’s fair to say that, in principle, both guys have agreed to that fight. Two fights.”

Where will the fight take place?

Both fighters are extremely big names in the UK sports scene and a fight in the UK is destined to do good numbers. However, given the high profile celebrity status of both fighters, it’s no brainer that there could be offers from all around the world to host a fight of this caliber.

Both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have had their last two-fights outside of the UK. Eddie Hearn stated that there are various sites in discussion to host the fight.

From a common-sense point of view and without knowing how a deal works, everyone will say Britain is the place to hold the fight. But it is the world heavyweight championship – there will be all sorts of offers from across the world, and there have been already.

The venue is another obstacle to overcome.” (H/T – Sky Sports)
