Anthony Smith vs. Ryan Spann
Anthony Smith has come back from his downfall in his recent few fights last year and won back-to-back fights in the UFC. He went from fighting for the championship against Jon Jones to losing two fights in a row and many people asking him to retire. In the most important fight of his career, Smith faced Jon Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in 2019, at UFC 235. He lost the fight via unanimous decision. He then defeated Alexander Gustaffson via rear-naked choke submission. In the following two fights, he lost to Glover Teixeira and Rakic. Many fans thought this might be the time to retire, but he came back stronger in his next fights.
He faced Devin Clark at UFC on ESPN and won the fight via a triangle choke submission in the first round. In his latest appearance, he fought Jimmy Crute at UFC 261 and secured the victory via doctor stoppage as Crute suffered a leg injury due to a leg kick from Smith and was unable to continue. Smith has gone 3-2 overall since competing for the UFC light heavyweight title in 2019.
On the other side of the octagon facing Smith will be Ryan Spann who has had an amazing run in the UFC with just one UFC loss on his resume. Spann is 5-1 in the UFC with four of his five wins coming by finishes. He debuted in 2018 and won the decision against Luis Henrique. Since then he has won fights against Antônio Rogério Nogueira, Devin Clark, Sam Alvey and Misha Cirkunov.
His only loss in the UFC is against the wild Johnny Walker. Spann was initially scheduled to face Johnny Walker at UFC Fight Night 176. However, Walker tested positive for COVID-19 and the match was postponed to UFC Fight Night 178. Despite knocking down Walker twice in the first round, Spann went on to lose the fight via knockout.
