The light heavyweight rivalry between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson has finally come to an end as Jones finished Alexander Gustafsson in the third round to claim the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight championship at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
The event had to be shifted from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to The Forum in Inglewood, California on a week’s notice because of a very abnormal finding in Jon Jones’s system which forced the Nevada State Athletic Commission to revoke his license.
So now top UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith is ready to challenge Jon Jones for the UFC gold next. Anthony Smith was working as a desk analyst for the event and he got involved with Jones in an on-air exchange on FS1’s UFC 232 post-fight show.
However, it didn’t please Jones and he immediately fired back on Smith and said that if UFC wants to make that fight then he will be ready to go (via Twitter):
Did @JonnyBones and @lionheartsmith just set up a date for July?… pic.twitter.com/RwnkoSKhKC

“I believe that this is my era,” Jones said. “I believe that I’m only getting better and I will defeat who I have to defeat. I got you in July if that’s what it’s going to be.”
After the exchange at FOX, Anthony Smith took to Twitter and said that they were on a collision course.
.@JonnyBones we are on a collision course. Let’s dance. #Lionheart
