Ronda Rousey had her share of rivalry during her days in the UFC- but one atypical rival she found was outside the cage- and it was none other than former UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste.
Grudges between fighters are common, but shock struck the mixed martial arts fans when “Rowdy” found her competition outside the Octagon as well- when Celeste’s popularity was skyrocketing a decade back.
“It’d have been really funny if I had beaten Arianny Celeste,” Rousey had said about Celester back in 2012. “Like it’s your job to show your ti**ies [and] I do that better than you?” [h/t talkSPORT]
Rousey’s jabs at Celeste made headlines once again in 2015, when the Women’s Bantamweight Champion made a bold claim that fighters were paid less than ring girls in the UFC. Celeste had responded by calling Rousey a “big bully”.
Arianny Celeste says Ronda Rousey never made her sweat
Cut back to the present, Celeste recalled the past war of words she received from Rousey. During an interview with MMA Junkie, the now-retired ring girl opened up on the feuds she had with the former champ, which Celeste explained stemmed from Rousey’s dislike of her being the face of the promotion.
“I never talked to her,” said Celeste. “I kind of just avoided the whole situation just because I didn’t even know her. For me, it was understandable a little bit, though, because she’s a fighter. I’m a ring girl at the time. I believe I was the female face of the UFC, and here comes this amazing athlete, but she’s like, ‘Who are you? You’re the face of the UFC. No, no, no – I’m going to be.’”
“So I get it. It’s like a competitive thing, but I think the way she handled herself was not cool. If I feel like she’s a little bit more aggressive in nature, to each their own. She didn’t make me sweat at all. I was perfectly fine. I just ignored the situation,” she added.
