The most popular basketball league in the world, The National Basketball Association is finally coming to India next year. The NBA team Sacramento Kings will play two preseason games against Indiana Pacers at the NSCI dome in Mumbai next October.
This is a big deal as it will be the first-ever American professional league sport to be staged in India. The game has been growing rapidly in India and has found a substantial amount of exposure.
Thanks to Indian broadcasters, fans can enjoy live games on their television in the morning and cheer for their favourite team. More than 350 live NBA games are shown in India each season, including 78 with Hindi commentary.
Although Indian Pacers isn’t the fanciest teams for casuals fans out there, but this is a start we can only hope that India hosts more global; superstars by the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant etc.
Even Indian origin UFC fighter Arjan Bhullar took to Twitter to post this and said that NBA doesn’t have an Indian player to give the sport a push to a more wider audience. He also said that UFC has an advantage over NBA as they have an Indian representing them in the world of Mixed Martial Arts.
