Aspen Ladd is not blaming Herb Dean or the weight cut for her loss at UFC Sacramento

Despite losing, in what some may call a controversial stoppage, Aspen Ladd is upholding the spirit of the game.

The undefeated Ladd went in at UFC on ESPN+ 13 against the inaugural UFC featherweight champ Germaine de Randamie. What followed was nothing that Ladd would’ve wished or hoped for. The first punch that she threw, Randamie dropped Ladd down with it. She just had to hit her opponent with one more punch while she was down. While Ladd looked dazed, she was certainly not unconscious when Herb Dean intervened to stop the fight.

The stoppage generated a lot of criticism from the crowd and fans from around the world. Aspen was asked about the same in a post fight interview. She cleared it up that she held no grudges against the referee Herb Dean.

“I lost the fight,” Ladd told MMA Junkie post-fight at UFC on ESPN+ 13. “Germaine’s a great competitor. I was still aware, so I wish he hadn’t stopped the fight, but there’s nothing I can do about it now.

“Referees have a tough job. They have to make split-second decisions. This one did not go my way so I wish it hadn’t occurred, but I really can’t tell you what he saw. I haven’t spoke to him after. No hard feelings.”

After seeing the knockout one can’t help but ponder over the 24 year old’s state at the weigh ins before the fight. Ladd looked terrible when she took on the scale. She was trembling and shaking all the while.

A reporter tried to ask her that if the weight cut had anything to do with her performance. Aspen negated it’s possibility saying that she had worse weight cuts in the past.

“I’ve had terrible weight cuts in the past. I’ve always come through.” She went on to add, “there really hasn’t been a break this year. I’ll take it a little bit easy. Maybe do a little bit of traveling, but as soon as I get the call for the next one, we’ll be back.”
