UFC bantamweight prospect Aspen Ladd (9-3) has been released from the UFC roster after making seven appearances in the Octagon, as confirmed by officials to MMA Fighting this Tuesday.

Aspen Ladd missed weight by 2 pounds before UFC Vegas 60

Ladd is coming off back-to-back losses to Raquel Pennington and Norma Dumont, but her release comes after she failed to make weight for a recently scheduled fight against Sara McMann at UFC Vegas 60.

The 27-year-old weighed in at 138 pounds, two pounds over the limit for a non-title bantamweight fight, causing the McMann fight to be scrapped off from the undercard.

Later, UFC president Dana White stated that the promotion was addressing the issue, but did not specify whether Ladd would be released.

“I don’t know,” said White, before changing his statement, “I do know, but we should probably talk about that at the appropriate time.”

Throughout her UFC career, Ladd has struggled to make weight and had three separate fights canceled when he failed to make the bantamweight limit for his fights.

Before facing Germaine de Randamie in July 2019, a trembling Ladd stepped on the scale but was able to make weight, before suffering a quick a 16-second knockout loss, but stated that she felt physically fit for the fight despite concerns raised about weight cutting.

However, the California State Athletic Commission would later suspended her bantamweight license as a result of Ladd gaining 18 percent of her total body weight in between weigh-in and fight day.

Ladd’s second weight in failure came against Macy Chiasson in 2021, followed by her pulling out of the bout citing health concerns. A featherweight fight against Dumont was booked as the main event at UFC Vegas 40, which Ladd lost via unanimous decision.

The latest weigh in failure became the final nail in the coffin of Ladd’s UFC career, leading to the cancellation of another fight and ultimately her departure from the UFC with a promotional record of 4-3.
