Indian Wrestling star and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Bronze medalist Bajrang Punia will try his hands in professional Mixed Martial Arts following the 2024 Olympic Games scheduled to take place in Paris. The news was revealed to us by ONE Championship star Ritu Phogat, who is a professional MMA fighter with a record of 7-2-0.
Ritu Phogat is the pioneer of Mixed Martial Arts in India. Her background and celebrity status has made MMA a very well recognised sports amongst the youth in India. She is coming off of a loss to Nong Stamp in December last year. Prior to that, she was on a three-fight winning streak. Before her advent into the world of MMA, she was a world class wrestler and won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in 2016. She also won a Bronze medal at the Asian Championship in 2017.

“I have talked to Bajrang Punia about making a transition to MMA. Right now he is focused on the 2024 Olympic Games taking place in Paris. But he has said that he wants to try the sport of MMA atleast once post Paris Olympics,” Ritu Phogat said.
Ritu Phogat doesn’t have a fight scheduled currently, but she stated that her ultimate aim is to fight for the title and she is ready to take whichever opponent ONE Championship puts in front of her.
“I am doing the hardwork and I want to be ready for whoever the organisation puts in front of me. I am ready to fight anyone leading upto the ONE Atomweight title and prove to everybody that I deserve it,” She said.
She also stated that she wants to avenge her loss to Bi Nguyen.
“I absolutely want to fight against Bi Nguyen and in the rematch, I will rectify whatever mistakes I did in the first fight,” Ritu concluded.
