The news was first reported by Fightful.

Fans are highly disappointed by this cancellation as the card was absolutely stacked. Friere was defending his featherweight title against Carvalho. Whereas  Daniel Weichel was set to face Emmanuel Sanchez in the co-main event.

The main card also featured Paul Daley, Josh Barnett, Matt Mitrione, etc.

After carefully monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, Bellator MMA has chosen to postpone this evening’s Bellator 241 event at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut,” Scott Coker wrote on Twitter. “We would like to apologize to our athletes and fans, as well as our broadcast partner DAZN, but we feel this is the best decision to be made at this time.”

Scott Coker also said that all the parties that were supposed to be involved in the fight are going to be fairly compensated.

All athletes that were scheduled to compete at #Bellator241, as well as officials, judges, cutmen and additional event personnel, have been compensated. Next to everyone’s health and safety, this was our biggest priority.” Coker said.

Fighters react to Bellator 241 cancellation

While some fighters were heartbroken following the cancellation some were extremely happy with how the whole situation turned out to be.

I am heartbroken to say the least,” Nick Newell said. “I was extremely well prepared. My team and my family sacrificed so much to make it here. Please give me some time to be with my thoughts.”

Thank you Bellator MMA for the way they’ve handled the CANCELLATION of Bellator 241 here at Mohegan Sun,” Paul Daley wrote. “They’re doing the right thing in the face of a global pandemic. Taking care of us fighters. Right now we must all do our part to help defeat this virus. Stay blessed all. Thank you.”
