Bellator 252 results: Patricio Pitbull Freire retains his belt

Bellator

Bellator double champ Patricio Freire successfully defended his belt against Pedro Carvalho at Bellator 252.

Bellator 252 was scheduled at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Freire knocked out Pedro Carvalho at the 2:10 mark of the first round and took home the easy win. The two-division champ started the fight off aggressively with heavy counters and finished his opponent with a left hook-straight right combo. The promotion’s semifinals in the Featherweight grand prix are set after this event.

It’s almost impossible to take my right hand on the chin and keep standing, and I knew that,” said Freire, who is now set to fight his rematch with Emmanuel Sanchez in the $1 million 145-pound tournament. In their previous fight in 2018, Patricio beat Emmanuel via unanimous decision. Emmanuel then beat Weichel to earn his second shot at the double champ. The other bracket sees A.J. McKee square off with Darrion Caldwell. “He’s tough,” Freire said after his win and before a staredown with his former opponent. “I was expecting that. He’s more dynamic, so I can’t wait to fight him again.”

Yaroslav Amosov was able to retain his reputation of having the best record in MMA of 25-0, after a close split decision win over Logan Storley. Amosov faced some adversity towards the end of the third round, where Storley had him in several chokes.

Sanchez was able to win this time against Daniel Weichel via a unanimous decision. The fight wasn’t nearly as close as it was in their previous meeting in 2016, which resulted in Sanchez’s loss via split decision.
