Bellator 277 results: Patricio Pitbull Freire defeats A.J. McKee and wins back his featherweight title

The Bellator 277 event which was headlined by the much-anticipated featherweight title rematch between Patricio Pitbull Freire and AJ McKee took place on April 15, 2022, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, United States. The featherweight title was on the line in the main event of the fight as the champion AJ McKee was challenged by the former featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull. In the co-main event of the night, The Bellator’s light-heavyweight title fight was set between the champion Vadim Nemkov and the challenger Corey Anderson.

The main event fight for the Bellator featherweight championship ended up with a controversial decision win for the former champion Patricio Pitbull as he defeated the champ, AJ McKee, via a Unanimous decision. After a back and forth battle between the two, the judges awarded the fight to Pitbull who settled his beef with McKee as their series is now tied at 1-1. The duo previously fought in the Bellator 263 main event, where McKee won the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix final via a first-round guillotine choke submission.

Now in their rematch at Bellator 277, AJ McKee started the first round pretty strong but then lost his momentum as Patricio Pitbull had an amazing game plan for him. Patricio Pitbull had amazing success with the strikes in the first two rounds as he was landing some amazing strikes on AJ who was finding it difficult to get his rhythm right.

The 3,4 and 5 rounds are where AJ started to get into the fight and started landing his combination and started to get ahead of Patrico. He also landed 4 takedowns out of the few attempts he made. Patricio Pitbull had also locked an amazing guillotine on AJ who barely got out of it and won the rest of the fight. The fight was pretty close but many thought that AJ had done enough to keep his belt to himself but the judges had some other ideas and then declared Patricio Pitbull as the winner.
