The UFC’s middleweight champion and arguably the best middleweight on the planet, Robert Whittaker was on an absolute rampage on his towards securing UFC gold, KO-ing Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and Derek Brunson, while also dominating and defeating the dangerous Uriah Hall and Yoel Romero. He again retained the title in his first defense against Romero himself at UFC 225. This has led many people to wonder which fight might be able to dethrone the champion, how will someone like former UFC middleweight and current Bellator middleweight champion, Gegard Mousasi fare against Whittaker and will he be able to defeat the Aussie? In a recent interview, Mousasi gave his two cents on how to beat Whittaker.
Mousasi who is scheduled to face the Bellator welterweight champion and former UFC welterweight title contender, Rory MacDonald, in a champion vs. champion fight, was recently addressing the media at Bellator 206 media call. He weighed in on a lot of different things such as his decorated resume at 185-pounds, his upcoming fight, as well as the UFC middleweight champion.
When asked about Whittaker and how he can be defeated, Mousasi stated that he believes that Whittaker can be beaten by a fighter who has sublime striking skills. Here’s what he had to say:
It’s all about matchups. To fight Whittaker, I think a guy with good skills in standup can defeat him.
