Bellator has stamped their authority in the super fight business with one impeccable fight as according to multiple resources, Bellator welterweight champion Rory ‘Red King’ MacDonald takes on Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi on September 29 in San Jose, California.
Mousasi (44-6-2 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) made his Bellator debut at Bellator 185 against Alexander Shlemenko. Mousasi edged Shlemenko via a razor thin split decision. However he made up for his shaky start with a quick first round TKO of dominant champion Rafael Carvalho at Bellator 200 in May.
Mousasi wasted no time in calling out probably the biggest fight in Bellator right now in Rory MacDonald. MacDonald later accepted the challenge in an extremely sporting way.
MacDonald had the same blueprint like Mousasi towards Bellator gold. Coming out of UFC, MacDonald faced Bellator’s welterweight division superstar Paul Daley at Bellator 179 in May 2017. He won the fight via submission in round two. He then face dominant champion Douglas Lima at Bellator 192. He won the fight via unanimous decision.
Another big ticket fight discussed in Wanderlei Silva vs Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson 4 is also slated for the card.
