The semifinal round of Bellator’s eight-man heavyweight grand prix between MMA legend Fedor ‘The Last Emperor’ Emelianenko (37-5 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) and former two-time UFC middleweight title challenger Chael ‘The Bad Boy’ Sonnen (31-15-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) is scheduled to headline Bellator 208 on October 13.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, who has faced Sonnen and defeated him, had a lot of words for what his former opponent is most known for, his trash talk. Jones compared Sonnen’s methods of trash talking with those of UFC superstar Conor McGregor’s and the effects of which their respective opponents Emelianenko and Khabib Nurmagomedov might be facing.
“I think Chael Sonnen is the worst trash talker. Just because a lot of the stuff he says is gibberish. Conor McGregor, when he talks trash there’s a lot of truth behind what he’s saying. I think Khabib will be under more pressure. Just because, he has a very dangerous fighter who usually backs up what he says. Where Chael Sonnen is known to talk trash and lose.”
While breaking down the fight, Jones claimed he has Emelianenko winning the fight however mentioned some points on which Emelianenko should work on.
“I think Fedor wins this fight all over. On the ground and on the feet. He’s just the better fighter. He has great jiu jitsu, better strikings. He’s the better all-around fighter. If I was going to give Fedor any advice, it would be to work on his guillotine. Because Chael Sonnen is gonna shot, and Chael Sonnen always shoots with his head on the same side. So work that guillotine, and work your triangles. I would also encourage Fedor to work on his get-up, so he’s not held down. And work on his cardio. Very important.”
