Ben Askren on Conor McGregor: His best days are behind him!

Ben Askren has no faith left in UFC’s original champ champ – Conor McGregor. If one goes by Askren’s train of thoughts, then McGregor would never return to his old glory days.

Askren, in a series of tweets, went on a full blown attack on McGregor. He believes that the Irishman made too much of money to ever train at the highest level possible.

“Let’s be serious @TheNotoriousMMA [Conor McGregor] made too much money to ever have the desire to train at world champ level. He ain’t getting younger those times are gone. Onle “glory days” and hot air now,” Ben Askren wrote.

One can’t question Askren’s logic in his assertion. Conor last stepped into the Octagon against Khabib back in October last year. He has shown no signs of returning back in the time that is left in 2019. He has fought twice since November 2016. McGregor has turned 31, an age when the athletic prime of an individual starts fading away.

Askren also believes that, if and, when Conor decides to come back it shouldn’t be for a match against “The Eagle”. Ben instead thinks that Dustin Poirier is a much better match up for “The Notorious”.

“You don’t want to get smashed by Khabib again. Take the Dustin fight and be happy. And be nicer to old people,” Askren said.

Ben went on to explain how the case of him wanting a rematch against Jorge Masvidal is different from Conor expecting a rematch with Khabib. Askren accepts that his performance against Masvidal was a mistake and courtesy of a good shot by Masvidal. However, on the contrary, McGregor’s show against Khabib isn’t something that he expects to change even in a future rematch.

“I got hit by 1 errant shot. Lesson learned and won’t happen again! @TheNotoriousMMA [Conor McGregor] got his ass beat for 18 minutes by Khabib and that will happen damn near every time,” Ben Askren added.

It seems that when Conor noticed the tweets, he decided to chip in. Ben was, however, very active in dismissing him straight away.

While one may beg to differ with Askren’s thoughts on McGregor, one can’t help but accept that a fight with Poirier makes a lot of sense for McGregor. Both the fighters were defeated by Khabib in their previous fights. And given the fact that Conor has already defeated Poirier, should serve as a confident booster for the Irishman.
