Being the grandson of the legendary Muhammad Ali, 24-year-old Biaggio Ali Walsh has huge shoes to fill, and the young mixed martial artist is ready to follow his family’s combat sports legacy by signing a contract with Professional Fighters League (PFL).
A former college football player for the University of California, Biaggio discovered his love for MMA back in 2020 when he arrived in Las Vegas from Berkley, and now trains Xtreme Couture MMA, headed by former two-division UFC champion Randy Couture.
Biaggio, has an amateur MMA record of 1-1 and according to his Instagram profile and is coming off of his maiden victory last month. He lost his amateur MMA debut back in June at the Fusion Fight League’s Rumble Under the Rims event against fellow debutant Devin Rothwell. My one and only goal is to one day become a PFL World Champion: Biaggio
Even though he originally planned to enter the NFL, Biaggio gained interest in MMA while practicing the sport to stay in shape while he was waiting to get clearance from the NCAA. And now, he will be competing at the PFL Finals in November and is also expected to turn pro next year.
“I want to thank Professional Fighters League for their support and confidence in me,” Biaggio said in an interview with ESPN, “I have a legacy to live up to, a legacy that my grandfather began, that my brother and I continue. I chose to continue that legacy here in the Professional Fighters League. My one and only goal is to one day become a PFL World Champion.”
“My grandfather had a huge impact on my entire life,” Biaggio recalled his memories with Ali, “As a little kid, I would go to restaurants and movies with him, everybody would stop what they were doing and start clapping. As I started to get older, I started to figure out who he is and what he did and the impact he had on the world. As far as who he is as a person, his confidence, mental toughness, man — it’s just always inspired me.”
