WBO super-middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders went off at angry businesses preying upon the vulnerable people of the society amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The Coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc around the world. This outbreak has put the entire world into a standstill. Many businesses had to close their doors and suffer losses.
Some people have taken advantage of this pandemic and preyed upon the vulnerable and less fortunate. Many have started hoarding toilet papers, sanitizers, and other essential goods and are selling it back at an exorbitant price.
Billy Joe Saunders calls out shopkeepers for ‘disgusting behavior’
Such an incident happened with Billy Joe Saunders when he was shopping for hand sanitizers and face masks. He took to Instagram and called out the greedy shopkeeper.
“This is £7 per bottle (sanitizer), this is £5 for one (facemask), all the shops are doing this at the moment. Now I have bought about six to seven of these. This (sanitizer) kills 99% of the germs, when I was paying for these there was an old lady in front of me, must have been around 70. She asked for potatoes, so the shopkeeper passed her a potato and gave her the change.
“She picked for one of these (sanitizer) up and she only had a fiver and the shopkeepers wouldn’t let her off for £2. Why are these £7 anyways? So I gave her a couple of mine and I let him (shopkeeper) know what I thought of it, which probably wasn’t the best thing to do. It got me a little bit upset and I felt like kicking his whole shop to the floor.
“But I don’t know why are people trying to benefit from the virus to the elderly people, to the other people when this (sanitizer) is £1. Why are we not giving this away on the street for free? People now generally can’t afford to £7 to give away, it has to go around. So this is a little rant for today but it’s disgusting when you see elderly people being treated like that, especially in a shop. I won’t be using that shop anymore and I would probably get a video of that shop later and put it on social media because it is disgusting,” Billy Joe Saunder concluded.
Billy Joe Saunders was in talks to fight Canelo Alvarez on May 5, but now it looks like the event could be pushed back to June in wake of the coronavirus situation.
